Ethical Bio-TA Tools project

The Ethical Bio Technology Assessment Tools project (Ethical Bio-TA Tools) was a project in which several of the researchers in EST-Frame participated.

The project was funded by the European Commission, DG Research, under FP5, Quality of Life Programme and was a joint endeavor of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (The Hague, The Netherlands), the National Committee for Research Ethics in Science and Technology (Oslo, Norway), the Centre for Bioethics and Risk Assessment (Copenhagen, Denmark), the Ethics Institute (Utrecht, The Netherlands), the Centre for Applied Bioethics (Nottingham, United Kingdom) and the University of Basle (Basle, Switzerland).

Publications

An important output of the Ethical Bio-TA Tools project was the ethical toolbox that includes four types of ethical tools that are designed to facilitate ethical assessments. These ethical tools are:

  • the ethical matrix: manual
  • the ethical delphi: manual
  • the consensus conference: manual
  • the corporate moral responsibility kit: manual

For an overall account of the project, see the final report.

See also the special issue on ethical tools in Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics (2007, vol. 20, no. 1) for a further justification of the developed ethical tools.
